This is very bad news. We read here that Universities UK has already written to the government requesting that post-92 universities be allowed to leave this defined benefit pension scheme, since the DfE has refused to fund the 5% rise in employers' contributions.

UK university managers are acting like the current funding crisis is happening *to* them, which says it all. Instead of cooperating to build political and public support for higher ed, they internalised the policy logics of a government that wants universities to eat each other
