Today, at the opening of the South East Europe Media Conference in Sarajevo, I stressed that the future of #MediaFreedom affects us all. It matters for governments and institutions, for civil society and citizens, for participatory democracy and for security. #SEEMC2025

I welcome today’s decision by the Constitutional Court of Bosnia and Herzegovina to repeal the ‘foreign agent’ law in Republika Srpska. Authorities must ensure that all media-related laws align with OSCE commitments and are developed through inclusive, transparent processes.

I note that Hungarian MPs have postponed the vote on the bill “on the Transparency of Public Life.” During my visit to #Hungary, I urged for its revision. I stand ready to support in reviewing the draft to align it with OSCE and international #MediaFreedom commitments.

As #Ukraine today marks Journalist Day, I want to highlight the importance of their work under difficult conditions. I reiterate that journalists have the status of civilians under International Humanitarian Law and must not be targeted.

I welcome the conviction of two gang members involved in the assassination of prominent journalist Daphne Caruana Galizia in #Malta. Crimes against journalists deserve full accountability for perpetrators and masterminds. This represents a positive step towards full justice.

24 years after Serbian journalist Milan Pantić was brutally murdered outside his home, justice remains elusive – and impunity prevails. I urge the Serbian authorities to renew investigations and ensure accountability in this longstanding case without further delay. 📷(B92)

The life sentences handed down by the Court in #Malta to the two persons who supplied the bomb that killed journalist Daphne Caruana Galizia underscores that there will be no impunity for crimes against journalists. Accountability must prevail for all implicated in the crime.

Today, I had the pleasure of meeting Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs of #Malta Ian Borg Ian Borg in Vienna. I expressed my appreciation for Malta's commitment to ending impunity for crimes against journalists.
