My political life since 1947 has been learning that there was a pre-imperial Britain and therefore would be a post-imperial Britain and that the self-respect and the greatness of Britain didn’t depend on having those great possessions and stretches of the map.

Just discovered another cool Old English word: 𝘸𝘢𝘭𝘥𝘨𝘦𝘯𝘨𝘢 ‘wood-walker’, one who walks through the woods. (IPA: [ˈwɑldˌɣɛn.dʒɑ])

It was also used to describe bandits, who would hide in the woods and ambush people.
