A belief in destiny is a cop-out from the scary possibilities and hard work of having choice.

People find life valuable but they are mostly self-interested and unimaginative. Their sense that life has worth stems from self-importance, not from any objective value of life itself. Nietzsche treats the everyday illusion of meaning as something to be diagnosed, not proven.
