It was fitting that the first ever race at the new Northern Area course at Leuchars contained runners owned by William Young Jnr, Victor Thompson and the McKie family. Colours that have been synonymous with Pointing in the North for many years!

A great few days for Mike Smith including a winner at Leuchars on Saturday and today a winner at the Punchestown Festival! Congratulations to Mike and his son Ben who started his career in P2P’s! The 50/1 winner started off life in a P2P at Alnwick.

🏆 Entries for the historic Heart of All England Maiden Hunters’ Chase Hexham Racecourse close at 12 noon tomorrow (Monday). The race is now worth £8,000 making it the most valuable Maiden Hunters’ Chase in Britain. It would be great to see lots of Northern Area runners!

It was a good day Kelso Racecourse on Wednesday for ex-Northern Area Pointers! Kilmore Rock (2nd in a Maiden at Corbridge) won his 4th race for Susan Corbett. Jentobello was an impressive winner of the bumper for Ian Jardine, he refused at the first fence at Overton in April.

There are 75 entries for the Haydon point-to-point at beautiful Hexham on Saturday, the final meeting of the Northern season. First of seven steeplechases at 2pm, pony racing at 1pm. #gopointing

4yo Jolie Joue won the 2m4f Maiden at Hexham yesterday for Huw Edwards, Fred Timmis & PSC Racing Club. The son of Ocovango will now head to Goffs UK at Doncaster next week.

Clapton Hill, the horse that Victor Thompson purchased backstage on Nick Luck’s Luck On Sunday has won the Rebecca Hellman Novice Horse Trophy! The Northern Area trophy is named in memory of Victor’s granddaughter who he discussed on the show.

Winning Northern Area Pointer Garbanzo re-training as a vaulting horse with the aim of going international next year! The grey also won 4 races on the flat for Ed Walker Racing and ran over jumps for Richard Newland & Jamie Insole Racing. Great to see him enjoying retirement! RoR

At the Dalston P2P in 1981 the two divisions of the maiden were won by Earls Brig & A Kinsman! Earls Brig went on to finish 3rd in the Cheltenham Gold Cup & King George in 1985. A Kinsman won the Stayers’ Hurdle in 1983 and RSA Chase in 1984. What a day to be at Dalston!
