Yearlist to end of July 2024 North Cave Wetlands stands at 162 species, with new birds for the month shown in Red.
Whilst sat in East Hide North Cave Wetlands, this juvenile Cuckoo flew past and conveniently sat in full view preening after a torrential downpour.

This juvenile Osprey was initially seen flying west past the car park Viewing Platform North Cave Wetlands later caught a fish and and began to eat it on the roof of Crosslands Hide!! I later managed to located it sat in a tree on Far Lake where it gave excellent and prolonged views.
Sightings:17th September 2024. North Cave Wetlands After adding Spoonbill and Bar-tailed Godwit earlier in the month to the reserve Yearlist, the brief Spotted Redshank this morning brings the 2024 Yearlist up to a record-breaking 165 species!
Yearlist to end of September 2024 North Cave Wetlands stands at 165 species, with new birds for the month shown in Red. This total sets a new yearlist record beating the previous best of 164 in 2016.
Part of the overnight roost of 78 Whooper Swans departing East Holm North Cave Wetlands about 7:15am. this morning, at least 140 birds passed through the reserve today.

Final Yearlist Total for 2024 North Cave Wetlands stands at 169 Species. This is the highest total recorded in a single year at the reserve, with 4 new species added during the year. Black-crowned Night Heron, Red-backed Shrike, Savi's Warbler and White-tailed Eagle.
