BREAKING: David Phillips Jr. has been found not guilty of second-degree murder but guilty of manslaughter. He was found not guilty of use of a firearm to commit a felony and possession of a stolen firearm.

SELECT: Tanya Rolf-Heck, 26, was sentenced by District Judge James Kube to 2 years in prison for one count of child abuse. She also was sentenced to 1 year for each charge of attempted child abuse and possession of meth.

The jury was handed the case for deliberation at 4:35 p.m. If they don’t have a verdict by 7, they’ll come back at 9 a.m. Monday. Phillips has waived sequestration, so the jury will be free to part ways for the weekend if they don’t have a verdict tonight.

Jeffrey Roan, 35, was sentenced on Wednesday in Colfax County District Court to 4 to 6 years in the Nebraska Department of Corrections for second-offense driving during revocation.

Phillips is testifying in his own defense. When he and Israel Matos-Colon were arguing on March 1, 2023, Phillips said he felt as though Matos-Colon was going to cause him serious bodily harm. So Phillips started firing his gun “to get him away from me.”

SELECT: Rowdy Bauer jumped 24-3.5 feet in the long jump, which collected the meet, stadium and Northeast Nebraska records. He was part of a dominant performance in the field events for #npspanthers , who were the runner-up to Grand Island in the team race.

Today is the fifth day of David Phillips Jr.’s second-degree murder trial in Cedar County District Court.
