Iran's President Ebrahim Raisi, Foreign Minister H.Amirabdollahian امیرعبداللهیان and their entourage were aboard a US-made Bell-412 helicopter operated by the Red Crescent Society, according to Iranian media reports.

Search and rescue efforts are still underway in the foggy weather more than two hours after the chopper incident.

The Iranian vice-president, Mohammad Mokhber, has travelled to Tabriz to closely monitor the search and relief efforts.
Meanwhile, the Red Crescent Society urged local people to avoid approaching the area where the incident happened as it may disrupt rescue efforts.
