Visited Bucha, a city 30 minutes away from Kyiv where many Ukrainian civilians were killed at the start of the war. Also Irpin where the Ukrainian army blew up their own bridge to prevent the city from being captured. W/ WTO DG Dr Okonjo Iweala & my colleague Iryna Polovets

Now some thoughts. Kyiv is such a stunning city & seeing it brought to life how devastating war can be but also how resilient & strong we are as humans.

Also met with H.E Mykola Solskyi, Ukrainian Minister of Agrarian Policy and Food & his team. Despite challenges, Ukraine continues to produce large numbers of wheat for export. Discussed trade issues and how Ukraine’s grain can get to parts of the world that need it most.

Interesting meeting w/ Ukrainian DPM & Minister of Economy H.E Yulia Svyrydenko & team. Discussed the Ukrainian economy, job creation, digital services trade, MSMEs & the need to support women owned businesses, and food security. Thank you Excellency for being as gracious as ever.

Great news! Ukraine deposits its instrument of acceptance for the Fisheries Subsidies Agreement! In Kyiv yesterday, w/ @WTO DG Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala, H.E Prime Minister Denys Shmyhal, H.E Deputy PM Yulia Svyrydenko & Dep. Economy Minister Taras Kachka. What an example for other WTO members!

Ukraine presented its formal acceptance of the WTO #FisheriesSubsidies Agreement to DG Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala on 17 Aug in Kyiv. If Ukraine can do it amid difficulties, others can do it too, the DG said.
