Hey nerds, meet Astyanax Mexicanus. Surface dweller has eyes, bottom dweller not. Critter's brain cleared then imaged with a #lightsheet #microscope from 3i. @JohannaKowalko Lab Lehigh University. Sample courtesy of Renee Mapa. Keep your eyes on Renee. Happy #FluorescenceFriday
Exciting news! Starting October, the Rohner Lab will be Universität Münster where I’ll be taking the chair of animal physiology. It’s been an incredible 9+ years Stowers Institute working under Robb and A. Sánchez Alvarado. Looking forward to new adventures and opportunities ahead! Come visit!
Still digesting the landmark #Draghireport, but great to see the emphasis on R&I. Very happy with proposal to double support to ground-breaking fundamental research via the European Research Council! And the stance on preserving the ERC's independence. commission.europa.eu/topics/strengt…

Second talk from the session on “Comparative genomic models of disease” by Nicolas Rohner (Nicolas Rohner) from Universität Münster about metabolic adaptation to nutrient limitation in vertebrates.
Fascinating talk from Nicolas Rohner on Comparative genomic models of disease. Highlighting the incredible longevity of cavefish and their feast/famine lifestyle. He even showed a cavefish that was 24y/o - intriguingly feeding normally hasn’t decreased it’s lifespan EvoMG Program
Please RT: we have Swiss National Science Foundation -funded #Postdoc and #PhD positions in our lab, to investigate the gene regulatory dynamics during vertebrate skeletogenesis in a comparative setting (see doi.org/10.1101/2024.0… and doi.org/10.1101/2024.1… ) - apply by 31.12.24, start date by 1.2.25!
PhD opportunity! The Comparative Genomics lab (Institute of Evolutionary Biology (IBE), UPF Barcelona) is seeking a PhD student to work on environmental DNA & mammalian conservation together with Esther Lizano ! apply now! CVs -> [email protected] #PhD #genomics #eDNA #conservation #Barcelona
We did it! 😀🎉 🍾🥂 Our Excellence Cluster Physics of Life (Physics of Life Dresden) got renewed until 2032! I am so proud of our team and all the great work we did to achieve this. At a personal level, I am really happy that the enormous effort that went into this process was successful,
