For a long time, we’ve told ourselves that American democracy is guaranteed, but it’s not.

Each and every one of us has to defend it, protect it, and stand up for it.

January 6 is a reminder we must always be vigilant in protecting our sacred democratic values, the foundation of this country. The amount of disinformation about this day continues to grow. But we know the truth. And we will always fight for our American democracy.

It's an honor to be back this week. The stakes are always high in the Legislature—but we are at a crossroads this year. We must be relentless in working together, as a unified Assembly, to urgently improve the day-to-day quality of life for all Californians.

Today, on #NationalFightRetailCrime Day, I am proud to share that Speaker Robert Rivas has formed a Select Committee on Retail Theft, naming me as Committee Chair. As more stores close across CA, we must develop smart solutions to keep shoppers, employees, and businesses safe.

With Gavin Newsom’s signing of #AB876 , Pajaro levee upgrades can start ASAP and will be completed as soon as possible. I’m grateful to see California putting Pajaro residents first. Our job does not end today, and we will continue to listen and serve this hard-working community.
