Farage falling apart on the detail when put under any sort of media scrutiny for a change is refreshing to witness.

Boris Johnson supporting Tory candidates will make almost no difference. It's way too late for a start and besides, he is no longer popular in a way he could have at least plausibly claimed to be at one stage.

Perhaps someone wanting to be a Reform candidate in the first place puts up an automatic barrier to them being appropriate for public office.

I remember about six or seven years ago when the crossover age for voting Tory was 47, and everyone was freaking out about that.

What Labour are going to discover in government is that trying to get back what we lost from Brexit in a piecemeal fashion will be time consuming, difficult, and ultimately unsatisfying. Nothing can replace membership.

If you think it’s impossible that the Tories will end up with less than 50 seats, remember 2016. Sometimes, the electorate just wants to burn everything down. Biggest difference between now and then is that wiping out the Tories makes way more logical sense than Brexit.

The Tories are discovering, once again, that you cannot out-Farage Farage, and that attempting to do so loses you a whole bunch of voters in the centre. Yet this is a lesson that they continually refuse to accept.

This “supermajority” and “one-party state” stuff from the Tories is ludicrous. Large majorities are part of what makes the Westminster system what it is. If you don’t like the British system of government, fine, but at least just say openly that you don’t like it.

Shocked that Reform's manifesto has costings that don't add up in the slightest. I don't think anyone could have seen that coming.

'There are literally no (former) Conservative voters complaining their party swung too far to the right' she says about a piece by a former Conservative MP complaining their party swung too far to the right.

If the Lib Dems and Tories end up with exactly the same number of seats, I believe the speaker of the House will decide who gets to be the official opposition.

I find the discussion of Starmer's age all of sudden amusing. He's only 61, much, much younger than either Biden or Trump (81 and 78) - further, a lot of this is coming from the right who either want Johnson to return (he's 59) or Farage (who is 60).

If the Tories had sat down and actually planned out a way for Farage to hurt them as much as possible, they still wouldn’t have come up with as perfect a way as what we’re seeing play out in front of us now.

David Cameron could have just rode out the UKIP storm and not committed to an EU referendum. Worst that would have happened for him was another coalition with the Lib Dems. Instead, he set in motion a chain of events that will destroy the Conservative Party.

There will be the usual bullshit about how “England have shown their historic weakness by barely beating a poor side” after tonight. Do not listen. Teams that win tournaments do so by beating teams like Serbia 1-0. Go on Three Lions.

Of course if the Tories get better leadership they could bounce right back but it’s important to note that they show absolutely no sign of being capable of doing this.

The idea that there is a majority for Cons and Reform together is refuted by maths - they have around 34, 35% combined, which probably isn’t enough to win a majority of seats under FPTP, never mind an actual majority of votes cast.

A way of thinking that has taken hold of the British right for a while now is that while London is in the 21st century, everywhere north of Northampton at least is stuck in 1974. They are about to discover that the rest of Britain is not stuck in 1974.
