Boris Johnson was a terrible prime minister and a terrible leader of the Conservative Party - but Tory MPs can remember him fondly only because he wasn’t as bad as Truss and Sunak turned out to be, that’s it.

It’s just about possible that if the government has to invent outdoor dining as a supposed “Brexit benefit”, perhaps there are no real benefits to discuss.

I don’t see how an economic upturn even helps Sunak at this stage. People have made up their minds - better economic headwinds might even make more people go “Hey, we can afford a more left-wing government now”.

“How it went wrong for Project Sunak” - that’s easy, you only need a sentence to summarise that. “Turns out he’s fairly bad at politics and he surrounded himself with mostly talentless people, making it all worse.”

I know I’ve commented on this already, but looking at that headline again this morning, good God. Surely “We needed to leave the EU so we could be a little bit more like France” is the lowest Brexit take yet?

This is spot on. Get outside of London and most of this debate disappears. Both the “woke” and ardently “anti-woke” positions seem like obsessions of London to most of the rest of the country.

I’m pretty certain we didn’t need to leave the EU to have tables outdoors at restaurants in Britain. Pretty sure I’ve seen that sort of thing in France and Italy once or twice.

The only real question left in British politics before the general election happens is: will the Tories get into treble digits in terms of seat numbers or not? There’s not much else left to wonder about.

David Frost is having a go on here at Theresa May because he “can't forget her disastrously bungled Brexit negotiations”. I mean, self-awareness clearly not his Lordship’s strength.

'The next election is an opportunity to turn the page on the post-Brexit rancour of the past,' says David Lammy. Labour are going to find out fast that the problem here isn't one of post-Brexit relations, but rather that leaving the EU was a bad idea in the first place.

Given the poor quality of Hunt and Sunak’s speeches this week, I genuinely think the best bet for the Tories is for the entire cabinet to say as little as they possibly have to before the general election, in the hope that people forget how much they dislike this government.

I think calling the UK a 'job creating factory' in its present guise is more than a little disingenuous. Talk up the country, by all means, but I'd expect the chancellor of the exchequer to do so in a realistic manner.

A 27-point lead for Labour is still wipe out territory for the Tories. However, the Conservatives must be happy Reform's polling numbers are wilting. It's almost as if the threat they posed was blown out of proportion, and they shouldn't have concentrated on it so much.

This week in Brexitland, I ask 'What would a campaign to rejoin the EU capable of winning actually look like?' The answers may surprise you:

The “Labour’s tax rises” slogan behind Jeremy Hunt says it all - Sunak and his team are telling you not to vote Labour, that’s it. They can’t think of any reasons to proactively vote for the Conservative Party.

Institutions - such as universities - used to be not only valued by Tories, but valuing such institutions was core to who they were as a party. Brexit seems to have destroyed this.

I feel like if kids really are being taught that there are 72 genders in schools throughout Britain, the government and more specifically, the Department for Education, ought to have solid, incontrovertible proof of this.

One senses a certain new level of panic in Tory world tonight after Keir Starmer’s speech earlier today. Lots of “Jeremy Corbyn” and “Ed Stone” flying about in wild desperation. I mean, bless them.
