Online meetings are fine but it’s difficult to imagine how they would result in hilarious conversations about the number of rooms in a modest Lincolnshire hotel! 😂 @JennaVioletShaw Cindayniah Godfrey @RossGeorge_

Excited to share our preprint on novel genetic regions associated with resistance to Neonectria ditissima using a multi-parental population and multiple phenotyping strategies. Excellent work led by Amanda Karlström @NIABEMR Richard Harrison Antonio Gomez

If Holly (Ilex aquifolium) finds its leaves are being nibbled by deer, it switches genes on to make them spiky when they regrow. So on taller Holly trees, the upper leaves (which are out of reach) have smooth edges, while the lower leaves are prickly 🤙

Mistletoe (Viscum album) moves from tree to tree with the help of its snotty fruit glue. Birds eat the fruits, fly to another tree & poop out the seed. Kept from tumbling to the ground by the gummy glue, the seed plugs itself into the bark & sprouts a new cloud of Mistletoe 🙌

I have been illustrating a British Pollinator poster. It’s amazing how many different insects help pollinate flowering plants, including lots of beetles! #pollinator #beetle ⁦Bathscape⁩ ⁦The Wildlife Trusts

Great to present my work at the end of a great week of horticultural science And to fulfill my lifelong dream of wearing a Britney Spears mic

For all the talk about drought in the US, Europe and China - let’s not forget the drought in East Africa threatens starvation for up to 20 million people. That is the most urgent emergency needing addressed due to disappearing fresh water sources.

What are some misconceptions about honey #bees that you wish most people knew? I'll start: 1. Beekeeping is animal husbandry, NOT #conservation 2. The vast majority of bee species DON'T live in hives and DON'T make honey 3. Honey bees are NOT endangered What else?

SO excited!!!! After being extinct for 100 years, Liverpool City Council have given permission for a reintroduction of Saw-wort (Serratula tinctoria) to Merseyside. It’s a super dooper rare plant in the northwest & is nearly extinct in neighbouring Cheshire and Lancashire! 🌱🎉
