Going back to school means making sure our students have what they need in order to learn. Our amazing Child Nutrition teams support students through their commitment to health & well-being. Thank you to this dept. for making sure we begin a new year that is healthy and happy.

This summer our Technology & Digital Learning Division, schools, media coordinators, community partners and families came together to support the 2024 NHCS Summer Library Program at BradleyCreekElem Anderson Elementary CB Elementary School. Check out some of the highlights here!

Across the district our incredible custodial teams have made sure every detail of our schools are ready for students. Thanks to their outstanding work, talents and expertise, students, families and staff can feel safe, healthy and prepared for the new school year ahead.

We are prepared for the new year, because of the attention to detail, welcoming personalities, & endless diligence of our office managers, payroll associates, school treasurers, registrar & records specialists, front office staff & other support roles across the district.

Yesterday our middle & high schools hosted their Open House events. 𝔼. 𝔸. 𝕃𝕒𝕟𝕖𝕪 ℍ𝕚𝕘𝕙 𝕊𝕔𝕙𝕠𝕠𝕝 greeted everyone with food trucks, dancing, cheering, resources & support. We love to see our community, families, students and schools come together to make sure 2024-25 is a great school year.

Our schools would not be ready without the incredible talent & commitment of our Maintenance & Operations teams. With over 20,000 work orders throughout the school year, about 1/3 of them happen at the start. Thank you for all of your work to make 24-25 our safest & best year!

An essential part of preparing for the new year is making sure that each school & division has what it needs. That can only happen through the commitment of the Purchasing Department. Thank you for your service & dedication to make learning possible for our students.

Last week our trad. calendar schools hosted their Open Houses. At Murrayville ES & Pine Valley Elem. we got to see how they welcomed their families into their buildings. So many volunteers, staff members, families, & community members came together to start 24-25 stronger than ever

Last week the Back to School Family Night for the Latino Community had a tremendous turnout. In partnership with El Cuerpo, students were able to access backpacks, school supplies, I.D. cards for minors, resources from NHCS & community partners, and food boxes from NourishNC.

Mark your calendars for Sept. 16. There are 2 opportunities to connect & have conversations about academics, child nutrition, CTE, pre-K, special ed. & technology. You can drop in between 8:00 AM - 1:00 PM or between 4-6:00 PM at the BOE Building (1805 S 13th St). See you there!

Inspired by their experience with the teacher leadership group NHCS Emerging Leaders, History teachers Jessica Harvey & Meagan Surface used this model to build a school-based version at 𝔼. 𝔸. 𝕃𝕒𝕟𝕖𝕪 ℍ𝕚𝕘𝕙 𝕊𝕔𝕙𝕠𝕠𝕝. We are excited to see them shine their light to students & staff this year!

Post-Secondary Planning: Enrolled, Employed, Enlisted! There are 2 sessions to receive info. about college admissions, FAFSA, NCWorks Career Center, scholarships & military opportunities. You can also meet with reps. from UNCW, CFCC, CFNC & hs counselors/scholarship coordinators.

In partnership with the North Carolina Principals and Assistant Principals' Association (NCPAPA), local food truck Well-Fed Ed will share their vision for eating healthy across the district. At their Open House, we got to see them in action at Williston Tigers and The International School at Gregory

This week is National Arts in Education Week! Join us in celebrating all of the arts in education this week and every week. We look forward to seeing the beautiful ways that our student artists create, express, and perform throughout the new school year.

Last week at SEA-Tech's SparkLab, students were able to engage with Betabox. They shared ways that students could utilize this technology through autonomous vehicle seminars. Students were able to explore other technologies, including drones and speed circuit routes.

📣24-25 Admin. Assignments: Ashley Petre, assist. principal of Murrayville ES. Ms. Petre taught at Rachel Freeman School of Engineering. She also served as a MTSS Coordinator/Instructional Coach & had this role at Winter Park ES. She was the assist. principal at Surf City ES.

📣24-25 New to NHCS: Dr. Robin Hamilton, Interim Chief Academic Officer. She has 35 years of experience, including teaching, being principal & Director/Asst. Supt. of HR. She recently served as the principal of Masonboro ES & as an adj. prof./clinical coach at Gardner-Webb Univ.

Our Early Literacy Facilitators work closely with teachers, students & families to bridge the gap of what students can learn in classrooms & at home. They provide support as an instructional leader for pre-K through 3rd grade literacy. These are funded by a NHC Endowment grant.
