We’re excited to announce that the IT section of NH 911 welcomed Eric Ellingson, in the role of Technical Support Specialist III last Friday. He’s already made a fantastic addition to the team!

No matter what your road is named, DESC’s cartographers have mapped it with a scary degree of accuracy so that first responders can find it in even the most frightful of emergency situations.

This First Responders Day we celebrate the first first responders who locate, communicate and connect people in an emergency with the help they need as well as all of our state and local public safety partners who go on scene at every hour to provide the help and care required.

Know your location when you are out and about during spooky season, and every season. Pay attention to your surroundings so that you know what town you are in, what road you are on, and any nearby landmarks if you need to call New Hampshire 911 to report an emergency.

October is Sudden Cardiac Awareness Month. Chances of surviving an out-of-hospital cardiac arrest are less than 10%. But with bystander intervention, there’s hope. Because AEDs are required to be registered in NH, NH 911 can direct callers to nearby AEDs in an emergency.

NH 911’s EMDs bring their Halloween spirit to work every year. Whatever character answers the phone tomorrow, callers will receive the same compassionate and professional service that callers can always expect from New Hampshire 911.

November is for giving at DESC. Every year we raise money for Operation Santa Claus (OSC) through our employee art show and No-Shave November fundraisers. Employees select and purchase gifts for OSC children. Our efforts make the holidays a little more joyful for these kids.

If you accidentally dial 911, don’t hang up! Stay on the line and tell the telecommunicator that you do not have an emergency. If you hang up, emergency lines are tied up longer because NH 911 will call you back to find out if there is an emergency.

November marks National Care at Home Month. 911 CARES is an important resource for in-home caregivers. This voluntary registry enables phone numbers to be associated with individuals with a chronic medical condition. Learn more at cares.desc.nh.gov

911 became the national emergency number in 1968, because it was easy to dial on rotary phones and because it was not in use as an area code. 911 became statewide in New Hampshire in 1995...and it is still the number to dial in an emergency!

Don’t assume someone else has called 911. Make the call yourself. In a crowded or chaotic emergency, it can be easy to assume someone else has called 911. It’s always better to have multiple reports of an emergency than none at all!

No matter where you are in New Hampshire, the number to call in an emergency is 911. And no matter where in the state you call from, your 911 call will be answered by one of NH 911’s expert telecommunicators in our Concord or Laconia Public Safety Answering Point (PSAP).
