Fascinating paper demonstrating how the major risk factors for Alzheimer's disease - age, sex, and genes - all converge on the microglial response to Aβ plaques, suggesting that research into the microglial response could expose novel drug targets. doi.org/10.1016/j.celr…

Wow! check this out! Super aging mostly fraudulent? "Supercentenarians and the oldest-old are concentrated into regions with no birth certificates and short lifespans" biorxiv.org/content/10.110…

Holtzman group reported that depletion of microglia fully blocked brain atrophy and halted tauopathy in PS19 model that are homozygous for human APOE4 (TE4). So they believe that microglia serve as the driving force of neurodegeneration. jem.rupress.org/content/early/…

Aducanumab, an antibody targeting beta-amyloid, successfully reduced cognitive decline in patients with early #Alzheimer's disease in phase III clinical trials. Biogen are now pursuing regulatory approval! bit.ly/33Pn1Lp

Open to neuroscientists and immunologists! 😀 Projects would be to understand relationship bet neural circuit function (opto/chemo/ephys/2P) & microglia, or to investigate relationship bet central and peripheral immune signalling mechanisms. Pls help spread word & RT 🙏🙏🙏

Must read 👇👇👇! "Universities can help faculty members to learn how to bridge difficult conversations, and to acknowledge the emotional burden of systemic racism. Department heads can encourage their faculty members to initiate and maintain these discussions with their teams"

Taking a break yesterday after some trapping I decided to explore and wander around the Toiyabe National Forest. I couldn’t help but be emotionally moved by the breathtaking scenery and felt the need to express some thoughts weighing on my mind. #sciencetwitter #BlackAFinSTEM

PAPER ACCEPTED! Those magic two words. We investigate signalling downstream of the Trem2 risk gene for Alzheimer's and see that Trem2 is required for what was traditionally known as anti-inflammatory signalling in microglia...genes like Arg1, Stat6, Igf1, Itgax and Clec7a.

V proud of Dimitra Sokolova & Tom Childs on this review they worked together during CoV-lockdown to explore potential mechanisms of what makes synapses vulnerable to glial elimination in Alzheimer’s: PtdSer, C1q & "synaptosis" doi.org/10.12703/r/10-… @Facultyopinions
