Addressing SDG2 at #HLPF2024, Hon. Dr. Min Bahadur Shrestha, VC National Planning Commission emphasized ensuring food security through investments,social protection & partnerships, highlighting progress in reducing undernourishment and calling for enhanced international cooperation & partnerships.
Addressing #HLPF2024 session on ‘SDG1: No Poverty’, National Planning Commission Hon. Dr. Ram Kumar Phuyal, expressed LDC’s concern over declining ODA, reduced FDI & rising climate vulnerability causing poverty in LDCs & stressed DPoA deliverables-food stockholding & resilience building-to end their poverty
Speaking at African countries, LDCs & LLDCs #HLPF2024, Amb Lok B Thapa stressed the need to: •accelerate SDGs in LDCs •leverage STI to unlock growth potentials •increase LDCs fiscal space •support LDCs issues in diff multilateral processes •address climate change impacts.
Addressing the General Debate, #HLPF2024, LDC Chair Amb. Lok B Thapa stressed the importance of early implementation of DPoA deliverables, productive capacity building, youth investment, STI, climate finance & renewed partnership to enable LDCs to accelerate the 2030 Agenda.
Speaking at the event "Poverty & Social Protection: Pathway to the World Social Summit," Amb Lok B Thapa highlighted social protection & its positive impacts on SDGs, stressing need for more financing, robust infrastructures & data mgmt system to leave no one behind.
Nepal presented its 3rd Voluntary National Review of #SDGs at the ongoing #HLPF meeting today. Amb. Lok B Thapa highlighted progress, challenges and the path forward, emphasizing the need for enhanced partnerships, cooperation, capacity building and financing for SDGs in Nepal.
Nepal cohosted a side event, “People and Planet: Addressing Climate Change, Poverty & Hunger in Asia Pacific," with ESCAP, ADB & UNDP. Amb Lok B Thapa stressed the need for integrated policies, investments, innovation & stronger multilateral cooperation to address these issues.
Nepal firmly believes in stronger multilateralism with the UN at its center. We must uphold our commitment to the UN Charter & international laws to foster trust & cooperation among nations, said Lok B Thapa at the UNSC Open Debate on Multilateral Cooperation.
Nepal & Armenia co-hosted a side event on Landlocked Mountainous countries. Amb Lok B Thapa highlighted unique challenges facing them & emphasized urgent need for climate action, robust infrastructure, increased support & investment to help them overcome their vulnerabilities.
Nepal🇳🇵& Kiribati 🇰🇮 established formal diplomatic relations. Amb Lok B Thapa & Amb H.E. Teburoro Tito signed a Joint Communique to this effect in New York. The two ambassadors exchanged views on different areas that Nepal & Kiribati can work together for their mutual benefits
Speaking at the HLPF Ministerial Segment, Amb Lok B Thapa highlighted Nepal’s progress on SDGs & urged international community to take decisive actions urgently to bridge huge financial gap to accelerate the pace to achieve the 2030 agenda & SDG targets.
Speaking at the ambassadorial meeting on“Summit of the Future”, LDC Chair Amb. Lok B Thapa welcomed the improved Pact of the Future & called for more ambition in actions to address the needs of LDCs while reaffirming stronger commitments to leaving no one behind.
Speaking at PBC meeting on Liberia, Amb Lok B Thapa applauded the progress made by Liberia on its peacebuilding efforts, highlighted Nepal’s contributions to UNMIL & called for enhanced international support to consolidate Liberia’s journey toward lasting peace and prosperity.
Today at the #UNSC, Amb Lok B Thapa underlined the need for proper peace building strategies, robust global/regional partnerships, preventive diplomacy, inclusivity & national ownership, sustainable development & early action for conflict prevention & sustained peace.
LDC Chair Amb Lok B Thapa, addressing the LDC Group Strategy Meeting virtually in Malawi, highlighted the issues of LDCs on climate change. He also called for steadfast collective efforts to address the needs of LDCs & ensure that their voices are not just heard but acted upon.
Speaking at the UN Security Council, Amb Lok B Thapa emphasized unity in the Security Council, context specific mandates, timely exit strategies, stronger partnerships with regional organizations & other entities, & unified political support for effective #UNPeacekeeping.
South-South Cooperation is crucial for LDCs to accelerate implementation of SDGs, build climate resilience, eradicate poverty/inequality, bridge digital divide & make LDC graduation possible, sustainable & irreversible, said LDC Chair Amb Lok B Thapa during S-S Cooperation Day.
