Intrigue caused me to look up a fatal crash in 2004. Local news at the time reported quotes from a devastated husband & noted the deceased 40yo driver had a 9yo son. He'll be 27. Made me think how annual casualty figures disguise the true ongoing trauma. #RoadSafety #VisionZero

Excited to have joined humn.ai today. There is so much potential in the use of behavioural, vehicle and environmental data to understand and manage risk. Looking forward to learning more and supporting ongoing research and development.

Cross-party support for well researched standards to save lives, that is also supported by industry and doesn't disadvantage the public. Great letter that seems difficult to argue with PACTS Department for Transport TRL

In the last few years gun crime moved ahead of road deaths as the biggest killer of young people in the US. Both are preventable public health issues. This wonderfully impassioned response from basketball coach steve kerr is what happens when #humanity comes first.

The Transport Committee and Department for Transport need to reconsider a phased driver licensing process to save lives on Britain's roads. This new report does the work you wouldn't and considers the evidence for the barriers to implementation. #safesystem #gdl #youngdrivers #VisionZero

On the back of the latest report on young driver safety from RAC Foundation @ReesJRF and TRL, this short blog for Humn.ai questions why we don’t apply simple but effective risk management to save lives #youngdrivers #VisionZero ProjectEDWARD rideshur.com/the-insurance-…

Why should we introduce phased driver licensing (#GDL) in GB Department for Transport? Well, because young lives and families are devastated with each one that occurs. There's a duty to protect inexperienced drivers, and the public sharing the roads with them #RoadSafetyWeek Brake, the road safety charity

It is so encouraging to see young driver safety being discussed and debated in parliament. Crucially, evidence-based approaches to save lives are no longer being dismissed. Thank you Nicole Taylor Caitlin's Campaign Radd Seiger Andrea Leadsom Richard Holden MP youtube.com/watch?v=jD_2nb…

Finally we're writing shocked headlines about people driving over the speed limit....oh wait. There is so much wrong about this headline I don't know where to start!

Well done East Sussex County Council for the initiative to make speed limits appropriate for local roads. Let's face it, the national speed limit is lazy engineering. Limits appropriate for the road context should be applied in all regions. Road Safety GB #VisionZero roadsafetygb.org.uk/news/east-suss…

I worked on an early draft of this with the MoD and got to understand the complexities of implementing a strategy across such a large institution with unique operating requirements. The principles we embedded have been retained which is great to see #VisionZero #RoadSafety

Worth remembering that two-thirds of drivers support: - all new cars having built-in speed limiters - 12 month minimum learner period before test - 50mph speed limit on rural roads. Imagine there was a referendum! shorturl.at/fvDGM Department for Transport #RoadSafety #safesystem

This could otherwise be headlined "Plans to update the driver licencing process to protect young people and save lives". Obvs not as catchy! The Times and The Sunday Times #roadsafety #safesystem #VisionZero

Compelling interview. As we told the Transport Committee, 547 lives, 57,000 casualties and £3.5 billion could have been saved if additional driver licencing measures were applied when considered in 2004. What are we waiting for? #VisionZero #RoadSafety Nicole Taylor Andy Cox

20mph limits, which have been used in the UK since the 1990s, have been independently assessed and found to substantially reduce vehicle speeds and casualties. 🚦📷pacts.org.uk/lustre-lower-u……

Personally I'm amazed this isn't a bigger scandal. I understand there are gov, business and societal complexities but surely manufacturers must do the moral and ethical thing even where governments haven't set minimum safety standards?

I remember my Mum's instinct when braking suddenly was to throw her arm across to the passenger seat. I was never convinced of the effectiveness of that, even as a child! Seems ridiculous now.

Attended a wonderful TRL reunion this afternoon and among the fantastic photo archives was this picture of a young David Coulthard on the test track. Presumably in the Renault UK Atlassian Williams Racing days on the basis of the car! #F1 #Formula1
