Today is International Owl Awareness Day! Much of lowland west Wales is suitable habitat for Barn Owls; in these areas, providing nesting opportunities is the priority. INCC has installed boxes across the Amman Valley in Carmarthenshire.

24-25 August is International Bat Night! 17 bat species breed in the UK. In Wales, Bechstein’s Bat is classfied as Endangered; Nathusius’ Pipistrelle, Serotine, and Barbastelle as Vulnerable. Our most common bats are Common and Soprano Pipistrelles.

August is a good month to sea Sea Holly flowering. This stunning plant flowers on our coasts, especially in sand dunes. The flowers are an amazing blue. Apparently, it’s historically been used as an aphrodisiac! 💚
