Yesterday, Local 4302 President Tom Kriss gave an interview with Fox 32 about the recent storm and the efforts to help residents in need. fox32chicago.com/video/947928

The recent rains have brought the water levels up. This provides us with a great opportunity to practice our water rescue skills. One method is to send a trained swimmer in specialized gear with a lifeline out to grab the victim and pull them to safety.

Not every rescue requires the “jaws of life” or a large hammer, sometimes a bit more finesse is needed. Crews practice skills needed with small tools like air cutters and chisels. These techniques could be used to remove metal from around a stuck victims hands or arms.

How are you spending your holiday weekend? Truck One and Medic One spent part of their morning leading a neighborhood bike parade. There was a great turnout and it was awesome to be out in the community with such great weather!

This morning, Firefighter Paramedic Timothy Bartholomew completes his final shift with the Naperville Fire Department. Tim served Naperville for 34.5 years, first as a civilian paramedic then getting hired to the Fire Department in 1990. Congratulations and enjoy your retirement!

Black shift worked to extinguish an early morning structure fire today. Crews arrived quickly and were able to limit the damage to the home. Great job by all crews on scene.

Early this morning, crews responded to a car in the water. Members from black and red shift were met on scene by police on our dive team. They were able to make the rescue before the vehicle completely filled with water. Outstanding work from everyone involved in this rescue!

Yesterday was a great day for golf! Several of our members were out on behalf of Local 4302 and the AFFI to show support for Senator Laura Ellman.

Our technical rescue team recently met up with surrounding teams to review and practice victim removal techniques from high locations. We review and practice various methods just in case a situation calls for a different approach.

Our thoughts are with the Chicago Police Department and their families this morning.
