Outflow from the earlier storms has contaminated the environment over most of the forecast area, and the threat of severe storms is waning. After discussion with neighboring offices and SPC, we have CANCELLED the remainder of the Severe Thunderstorm Watch in our forecast area.

Say goodbye to meteorological summer! The most notable information from the August and summer climate summaries was the paucity of rain; Zanesville set a new rainfall minimum record for August and New Philadelphia did as well for the summer (June-August) period. #PAwx #OHwx #WVwx

The area will have one last shot at a shower this evening as a secondary cold front moves through. Most of you won't see any rain, but there are a few isolated showers crossing the region. Dry, cooler, and sunny weather is then expected for most of the week.

A touch of fall to begin the week, then a return to more normal temps by Wed and Thu. A cool NW flow will setup over the area today as high pressure moves across the Great Lakes. This will mean cool temps, comfortable conditions, and lots of sun. Enjoy your Labor Day holiday.

Like cool temps? Then you'll like this 6-10 day outlook from the Climate Prediction Center! Below-normal temps are the most likely outcome from September 7th through the 11th, with a slight lean towards above-normal rainfall.

Here's some satellite imagery from this morning. You can clearly see the river valley fog in central PA diminishing, while upper level smoke out of Canada moves in out of the northwest.

Another beautiful day on tap for Thursday though you may notice a bit of a milky sky with wildfire smoke hanging around high in the atmosphere. Rain chances return late Friday with a cold front passage that will drop temperatures to more of an early October feel for the weekend.

Rain returns later tomorrow and into Saturday, but will be followed another stretch of dry conditions the second half of the weekend and next week.

A cold front will bring scattered showers and thunderstorms to the area this evening. A few could reach severe levels west of Pittsburgh, but that is *highly* dependent on if the cloud coverage holds off long enough. Temperatures will fall to below average for the weekend.
