Once Francine makes landfall, its remnants will impact Middle TN. Heavy rain and flooding is the main concern, but severe weather including a low tornado threat is possible as well. Main time frame to watch will be Thursday & Friday.

We will soon begin to feel the impacts of Tropical Cyclone Francine. While some hazards may accompany this system, we can also use the rain. And it appears that areas that have been hardest-hit by the recent drought stand to receive the most rainfall during the next several days.

On this date in 1983, Nashville set a record for the latest-ever 100° temperature. (Record was broken on 9/21/2022.) Just eleven days later, we tied the record low for September at 36°. It's still the earliest sub-40° occurrence on record.

Soaking rain will be a big relief for drought conditions, especially west of I-65. If too much rain falls too quickly, it could produce localized flooding. Be careful out there, especially at night when water depth is difficult to judge!

Areas west of I-65 have seen the bulk of the rain today with radar estimating around 0.5 to 2 inches. This steady rain is good news for those drought areas in southwest Middle TN. We’ll likely see showers become more patchy through sunrise.

Rainfall from Francine has been disappointing so far, but we cannot let our guard down yet. Areas south and southwest of Nashville are in a favorable zone for showers and storms this afternoon. Heavy downpours may cause local flooding and an isolated tornado cannot be ruled out.

Scattered showers & an isolated storm or two continue over the mid state this afternoon, but the output from Francine remains a disappointment. Rain chances continue overnight, mainly in areas to the west & south of Nashville. The risk of severe storms at this point is very low.
