Lately, I have been looking up pre-COVID stats about causes of death, population sizes, age distributions in order to relate them to current numbers of "confirmed infections" and "COVID-related deaths" that drive responses. Here is John Ioannidis' take: statnews.com/2020/03/17/a-f…

Using #VirtualReality in trial-based, factorial experiments in #VisionResearch can be cumbersome. In the BioMotionLab York University, we developed a toolbox for Unity3D (inactive) that makes experimental design and execution easy and convenient. For details visit biomotionlab.ca/tux/

Yes, and here is another “illusion”: The two floor lines are NOT parallel. Both claims are true if we talk about the 2D projection, but they are false if we are talking about the depicted scene. Why would we bother talking about the former? Our visual system doesn't.

R2R produced a well crafted feature on one of our current lines of research -- a new visual telecommunication system that we developed to study the dynamics of eye and head gaze during video communication. VISTA @ YorkU York U Research & Innovation YorkU - Science

Is cybersickness caused by sensory mismatch? In a new BioMotionLab paper, @SiaEftekharifar shows that motion parallax and stereopsis are both contributing, and that mismatches between the two depth cues do not. This applies not only all the way up to the Nobel Prize but also back into preschool and early development. Don't implant the urge of "being the best" in our children either. It is not healthy. Opinion: We Should Ditch Awards in Science the-scientist.com/news-opinion/o…

Thank you, Yann. This is so important! And the interview makes the paper much more accessible openreview.net/pdf?id=BZ5a1r-…

Ok, the number of people I am following is now stable and nobody posts nude pics on my account anymore. Seems I am in control again.

Niko Troje (@ntroje) 's Twitter Profile Photo

But does someone know how to get rid of more than 2000 people I am "following"? How would I ever spot an interesting tweet among this crap?

Niko Troje (@ntroje) 's Twitter Profile Photo

If my 17 followers read my tweets as frequently as I am reading the tweets of the ones I am apparently following, then NOBODY sees mine.

Niko Troje (@ntroje) 's Twitter Profile Photo

So, here I am, tweeting just to myself. Which is fine. I did that long before there was anything like Twitter around.

Niko Troje (@ntroje) 's Twitter Profile Photo

I am learning. Tweets can be deleted. I was worried I had to live with that image forever. Now you don't even know what I am talking about.

Unfollowing ... Click by click. Who are all these random Joes, Peters, Dianes, Kamiras, ...? Why would that demon bother subscribing me?
