A cold February kept people away from Starved Rock State Park. Attendance fell short of 81,000, which is almost a quarter below average. The park is off to its slowest yearly start more than a decade.

343 years ago today on April 9, 1682 – Robert Cavelier de La Salle discovered the mouth of the Mississippi River, claims it for France and names it Louisiana. LaSalle County and the town of LaSalle within it are also named after him.

Heres a flashback photo of me taken on April 20, 2005 on the first anniversary of the Utica tornado next to the ACB 7 Chicago news van. I got my start from the tornado. My thoughts are with the families who lost their loved ones from that day on this Easter Sunday. Eric Siegel
