Love this feature in the latest National Trust magazine. The picture has become iconic. It shows Martin Papworth excavating Britain's only known 5th (and now potentially 6th) century mosaic. Monday

Something special for ... A one hundred year old photograph of the Grand Dining Room mosaic at Chedworth Roman Villa.

The image was used in the National Trust's appeal to preserve the Villa for the nation.

This year, Chedworth Roman Villa is celebrating 100 years of being part of the National Trust and 160 years since being rediscovered.

Back in 1984 there was also a celebration. Check our these wonderful designs...

Our mascot 'Winter' gazing out over the mosaic that inspired his creation. He holds a leafless branch and a hare and wears a thick hooded cloak in the local style, called a birrus britannicus.

Unexpected remains at NT The Weir Garden,

An octagonal cistern uncovered by workmen in 1891 close to a Wyeside Roman bath building - thought to be a nymphaeum or sacred spring 🧙 dedicated to water spirits - similar to that ChedworthRomanVilla 👌

An old post card showing the West Range bathhouse at Chedworth Roman Villa. This view, taking in the hypocaust system (underfloor heating) and warm room mosaic, remains one of the most photographed moments at the Villa today.

History came alive for our Year 3 pupils during their trip to Chedworth Roman Villa.

Our pupils learned about the history of the site and enjoyed a hands-on mosaic-making workshop.

Their creations are testament to a fantastic learning experience.
