The view from today's meeting today in Treorchy, the fabulous Station Cafe. It was a really sad day when it closed, I spent a lot of happy time photographing in there. Expect more photos!

Road by an Airfield, Eric Ravilious, c.1942. The original artwork was sold at Christie's in 2008 and is now believed to be in a private collection. Like so much of his #WW2 output, it is an unfinished work and pencil outlines of planes can be seen behind the trees.

'The Brass Kettle.' (1904) Édouard Manet was Fergusson's idol here, and the many studies and paintings he made throughout this period show his adoption of Manet's style – in terms of colouring, but also fluidity of paint and brushstrokes.

We framed Cézanne’s Bathers today. The conventional 18th century gilded frame was replaced with a provincial 16th century Italian frame, the faded blue painted finish is similar to artist frames of the late 19th century. The composition is opened up and has more depth.

One of the greatest pastellists of the 18thC, Maurice-Quentin de La Tour is known as much for his insight into the character of his sitters as for his remarkable command of the medium. This superb self-portrait is from around 1737.

An unusual perspective, or is it? 📐🤔 Compare the painting to the bedroom’s floor plan (2*) and you’ll see that Van Gogh captured the room’s skewed angles exactly as they were. * Floor plan of Van Gogh’s bedroom, the Yellow House in Arles (the white line highlights his room)

Emerging at a crucial juncture in van Gogh’s early development as an artist, 'Bridge Over a Ditch' from 1883 is amongst his earliest explorations of colour in his depictions of the Dutch landscape, made while living in The Hague.
