We're joining archives around the country to celebrate #archiveshandwriting! While we encounter sloppy handwriting a lot, occasionally we get to read some beautifully written script, like Governor Daniel Haines' oath of office from January 1848 [SSTSE007] #archiveshashtagparty

The State Archives maintains a list of missing and alienated records that belong at the Archives but have been lost or stolen over the years. We were recently able to track down one such enrolled law from the Royal Colony of New Jersey, dated December 6, 1769.

A new month means a new mini-exhibit in our Manuscript Reading Room! This month’s exhibit features Isaac Ogden, a loyalist from Newark. He was indicted for seditious words and fled to New York during the Revolutionary War. His property was seized and Ogden never returned to NJ.

It's National Pet Day! While we celebrate our beloved companions today, this historical photo offers a glimpse into a different time. Here's naturalist Warren E. Buck with a leopard cub in the early 1940s – a sight you won't see in NJ today due to laws protecting these animals.

It's #ManuscriptMonday, and we're looking at a sworn statement from September 1776! Mrs. Elisabeth Franklin, wife of William Franklin, swore she had "no knowledge at all" of the Council's books, except for seeing one "last May, at a time the council were sitting."
