Herpetology curator Dr Mark D. Scherz just received a slender snouted croc - Mecistops cataphractus - specimen. It sadly died from illness but will be in good care in our collections where it can help researchers understand the species better. Follow Mark for more herpetology news.

So Velvet ants are actually wasps. Even more confusing - they exhibit Müllerian mimicry - which is the resemblance between several harmful species, advertising their defence to would-be predators. New paper out from the New Hope Middle collections. doi.org/10.1093/biolin…

Beautiful SEM scans provide new evidence for co-evolution of tiny marine copepods and their diatom prey in NaturalHistoryDK DTU study. Feeding on diatoms causes significant wear and tear on copepod teeth leading copepods to become selective feeders. pnas.org/doi/10.1073/pn…

An angler called NaturalHistoryDK having caught a small shanny (Lipophrys pholis) at Løkken in Northern Jutland. This species is a new registration from Danish waters and will now be featured in the upcoming book "Atlas over danske saltvandsfisk" fiskeatlas.ku.dk
