Our first Members’ outing for the 2024/25 season is a visit hosted by the Cairngorms Beaver Project later this month, so now would be a great time to join up forms.gle/AvitECE49fVu3j…

facebook.com/share/v/EVVeNf… All eyes on the sea 👀. There's been Humpback and Fin Whales and Orca off Aberdeenshire's coast in past couple days. Multiple Basking Sharks also in the Moray Firth (yes we know, not a mammal - but maybe we can grant honorary status).

Lovely to meet new members on our visit to the Cairngorms Beaver project last week. We saw lots of beaver signs and a lodge (and got to take home some🦫 sticks), but the mammals were a bit elusive. Big thanks to Jonathan for being such an excellent and informative host.

Be shrew(d) and join us for our small mammal event at Scotstown Moor, Aberdeen. We'll be learning about a range of survey techniques and looking for Harvest Mice - a nest was found here in 2020, the first in the NE since Victorian times. 🐭🐹🐁🐀 eventbrite.com/e/small-mammal…

Nathusius' Pipistrelle #bat last night in Cults. Probably won't be the last this year, but it is unlikely there will be many more here. All bat detections well down now with the cooling weather. (Compressed view) North East Scotland Mammal Network Bat Conservation Trust Mammal Society

Great turn-out for our small mammal event today. We learnt about live trapping, small mammal signs, thermal imaging, acoustics and camera trapping. As well as mice, voles and shrews, two out of three cameras were visited by Weasels - fantastic wee animals (unless you're a vole).

Following yesterday's small mammal day and a valiant, but unsuccessful, search for Harvest Mouse nests at Scotstown Moor, we kept the faith today and ... drumroll.....

I was puzzled by this growing pile of soil coming up through and over the top of the heather in the garden. Same quantity again appeared over next 2 nights. It was the size of a *large* molehill. #cameratrap showed it was the work of Field Mice! North East Scotland Mammal Network Mammal Society

Wondered what a swimming #Beaver looks like in the dark? Probably not. Here's one at Kinnordy this evening recorded with the #thermal. You'll need to look at it on a large screen! The hotspots are the eyes and ears. North East Scotland Mammal Network Mammal Society
