Thank you so much to @NEEChamber & @NEEChamberFreya for sharing the research Changing Relations & I conducted earlier this year, on the impact of Covid-19 on efforts to build gender equality in North East businesses! Read their summary of the research here: neechamber.co.uk/building-gende…

You might have seen coverage of this report or read the headlines - but Freya has dug in a bit and summarised the economic impacts and the business actions, and pulled out the North East-specific statistics and findings. Well worth a read on our @NEEChamber Knowledge Blog.

This is an incredible find, but does it have to be displayed in Cambridge? I get Cambridge academics have been studying it, but that seems to have happened by chance, and wouldn't it be nice to have it inspire people in Northumberland, where it was found? bbc.co.uk/news/science-e…

Excellent thread by @NEEChamberArlen looking at the impact of the so-called lockdown by stealth on the region's businesses 👇

This thread from an hour ago is now out of date, as the Treasury have just announced a new support package: gov.uk/government/new… - £6k grant for hosp and leisure - Stat Sick Pay rebates for SMEs - £100m for local authority discretionary grants - £30m for culture/arts sector

Emergency support announced - includes part of what will be needed in the weeks ahead. The big problem? Ignores workers. 🧵

SCOOP: Omicron is causing a milder disease than Delta in most Britons, UKHSA severity data shows — and a booster offers strong protection — BUT high transmissibility means large numbers may still end up in hospital — mixed findings overall See Playbook: politi.co/3svJcDk

Important caveat: it might be milder, but UKHSA think it’s not necessarily mild enough to avoid wave of hospitalisations. They find Omicron transmissibility is so high that hospitalisations may still negate the reduction in severity. Still TBC so hospitalisation data is now key.

- In the week to 3 Jan, 7% of adults were self-isolating - Guidance is to work from home where possible - Retail footfall was down 21% in December - We hosted COP which saw pledges to reduce road emissions AND YET, emergency support for public transport is set to end in March?
