The Old Farmer's Almanac says with harvest time at hand, be aware of when to pick certain fruits and veggies. Don't let zucchini get too big; pick at 6-8 inches. Pick pears while they're still hard, let watermelon get fully developed, and tomatoes can ripen on or off the vine.

The moon is full today. This moon is not just a Harvest Moon, but a "micromoon" which is the opposite of a supermoon. (farthest point in its orbit-looking smaller and dimmer)...Paraskevidekatriaphobia: fear of Friday, 13th!

The Old Farmer's Almanac says when deer are in gray coats in October, expect a hard winter. And lots of confused people trying to figure out who was rummaging through their closets.

The Old Farmer's Almanac says that if you want to speed up or slow down how fast bananas ripen, manipulate the ethylene gas the fruit gives off. To hasten ripening, put your bananas in a brown bag with an apple. To slow the ripening, separate the bananas from each other!

Wondering why there are so many darn acorns falling on your head and car in New England? Because squirrels, chipmunks, mice, and even some birds need them. It's a "mast year," part of the life cycle of oak trees, their need to reproduce, and their symbiosis with nature's critters

The Old Farmer's Almanac says leaves that have fallen in your yard are brown gold, a rich source of calcium, magnesium, phosphorus, potassium, and more, twice the mineral content of manure, gather them up for mulch, or leave them on your grass and mow them to improve the soil.

The Old Farmer's Almanac says eggplant is rich in anthocyanin pigments, which help wounds heal and can improve vision, which is a good thing since better vision will help you avoid more wounds.

Every season has a star spice, and there's nothing that says autumn quite the way cinnamon does. There are four main types: Ceylon, Korintje, Saigon, and Cassia. All come from the bark of certain evergreen trees, although Ceylon is the only "true" cinnamon

The Old Farmer's Almanac says election days used to be party: People traveled long distances to vote, while the results were being certified, and were hungry! Election Cakes became a thing, "a boozy affair with lots of alcohol-soaked fruits and spices." Ah, the good ol' days!

It's National Bittersweet Chocolate Day; I don't know why you would eat bittersweet chocolate when un-bittersweet chocolate is available, unless you're feeling resentful about something in which case you should eat the sweeter stuff and you'll get over your disappointment.

The Old Farmer's Almanac says a nimbostratus cloud, full of rain, snow, and ice pellets, is dark, shapeless, and nasty. I know some people like that.
