Tropical #Cyclone Charlotte formed off the NW coast of Western #Australia, approximately 522 mi N-NW of Exmouth on 3/21/22. By the next day, when MODIS acquired this image, the storm carried maximum sustained winds of about 92 mph & was moving the out over the Indian Ocean.

#NASA’s #Terra MODIS sensor acquired a false-color image of snow & ice on the Missouri #River in #NorthDakota on 3/23/22. Much of the river (SE of the lake) appears #ice free (dark blue), but both Lake Sakakawea & the river NW of the lake contain ice (bright blue). #USA

This beautiful color off Tunisia's coast, captured 3/23/22, is the result of a large phytoplankton bloom - microscopic plant-like organisms that live there year-round but, when conditions are right, undergo explosive reproduction to create huge, colorful, floating colonies. #NASA

Bright blue tones colored the South Atlantic #Ocean off the coast of #Argentina on 4/2/22. The brightest line of color stretches about 620 mi southward from the same lat as the mid-Rio de la Plata, disappearing under clouds in the south. modis.gsfc.nasa.gov/gallery/indivi… #SouthAmerica

On 4/5/22, MODIS acquired a true-color image of #Tropical #CycloneFili as it strengthened off of NW New Caledonia. The 5th named storm of the 21-22 South Pacific cyclone season was carrying max sustained winds of 52 mph. The storm was moving southwards over the Coral Sea. #NASA

Sea #ice and #snow dominated the landscape of #Russia’s Far East on 4/2/22 when #NASA’s MODIS acquired this image of the early spring scene.
