Greenhouse investigation... 2 uncovered beakers of water and 2 beakers underneath mini plastic greenhouses. Temperature of all 4 beakers measured every 20 minutes. Thermometer to measure ground temp as well.

After 90 minutes the surface temperature was nearly 40⁰C ( bearing in mind this is May in Scotland! Uncovered beakers got to 27⁰C and the covered beakers reached 38⁰C - after full 11⁰C higher!

The greenhouse effect is so important for life to exist on Earth...but, too much carbon dioxide in the atmosphere 'strenghens' the greenhouse effect causing Earth's temperature to keep rising and ultimately that causes climate change.

This really simple investigation, inspired by MyScienceClub Earth's Climate pack really helps children to understand how the greenhouse effect works, why it means we have life on Earth and what will happen if is gets stronger and Earth continues to heat up.
