We aim to decrease carbon in the atmosphere and increase forest coverage.
Our initial goal is to plant 400.000 trees or about 200 ha of new forest every year.

We've established monitoring sites to oversee the growth of plants in the afforested regions. These sites consist of 10 by 10-meter squares where we count the survival and growth of plants. This week, our agenda includes visiting all of our reforestation sites for monitoring.

The challenges to #reforestation is not only about lack of rain. These are oak tree roots eaten by rodents in our Lernajur planting area. Oaks take longer to grow, and it’s disheartening to lose two-year-old oaks. However, we recognize this as part of the natural cycle.

Here we are on our second monitoring day in our Jrashen planting area. We carried our replanting in April and the results are good thanks to generous rain in May. You can see the ones planted on the north-western slope are doing better than the ones on the south-western slope.

On day three of monitoring, we are at our Urasar planting area. The wild pears have grown taller in their second year since planting.

Although shrubs are smaller, they play a significant role in enhancing biodiversity. As you can see, this one has grown beautifully over two years and is now tall enough to allow photosynthesis without being disturbed by the surrounding grass.

The oak trees that we planted in Urasar are growing quite well. Oaks typically grow slowly, but are very resistant to drought, and once mature, they will contribute a lot to biodiversity, also they are some of the longest-living trees in our forests.

Our workers are currently doing maintenance work at our Lernajur planting area. The work consists of weeding about 50 cm around the newly planted seedlings. This task is challenging yet essential because tall grass obstructs the growth of young trees by blocking their sunlight.

From the largest animals to the smallest insects, from towering trees to moss, each element is crucial for ecosystem stability. #Biodiversity is the foundation of a strong, resilient #environment. This is why we plant over 15 species of trees and shrubs, all native species.

Pine trees are efficient in forest building, as they are considered to be pioneer species, particularly when there are no 🌳 around. They are part of the local natural ecosystem. As one of the fastest-growing species, they facilitate the growth of other species by providing shade

On Saturday, parents who donate monthly to plant trees on behalf of their children visited our reforestation area. They had a blast running around and trying to spot their small trees among the tall grass. In just a few years, these little trees will outgrow them!

We primarily focus on planting in Armenia's Lori and Tavush regions. What do you think drives our choice to plant in these areas, and how do we select the specific locations for forestation?

We plant in Armenia’s Lori and Tavush regions because these areas are the most favorable for creating new forests - foremost among them is amount of precipitation throughout the year. To have natural self-sustainable forests, there must be enough rain throughout the e year.

Why do we do reforestation? Trees absorb carbon dioxide that is the main contributors to the global warming. Tree roots stabilize the soil, preventing landslides and protecting waterways. Forests act as natural reservoirs and transform the rainfall into rivers and water sources.

To optimize tree health and growth, we plant at a depth of 30cm. This depth facilitates robust root development, ensures proper soil aeration, and enhances nutrient absorption.

We’re excited to start gathering seeds from the forest super soon! These seeds will help us grow new seedlings and we specifically chose to get them from areas with healthy and strong trees in already established forest so our forests will be as close to those as possible.
