A central principle of Finding Ceremony's work is the belief that descendants are the only ones who should make decisions about what happens to the remains of our ancestors, which have been stolen, exhibited, and experimented on for generations. That's why this book is needed: 2/

Much of the background knowledge needed to make such decisions has intentionally been denied to us; this book, which I'm writing as part of the descendant-led reparationist project #FindingCeremony, seeks to begin to close that gap in a trauma-informed way. & I need your help. 3/

This book is intended to be available for free to all who are impacted by Morton's theft and abuse of our ancestors, and their continued display and exploitation by the physicians, scientists, and anthropologists who controlled them after his death in 1851. 4/

Most organizing re: the "Morton Cranial Collection" thus far has focused on Black Philadelphians, due to @PennMuseum directors' targeting of those ancestors specifically. And undeniably, Morton's science was primarily aimed at justifying continued enslavement of Black people. 5/

A year ago #FindingCeremony held a press conference in front of Penn Museum to share that photos from 2014 show Janet Monge, former curator there, with bones of MOVE bombing victims, including many they previously denied ever having. @penn has yet to respond to this new evidence.
