July marks 40 years since veteran Black Panther and award winning journalist, Mumia Abu-Jamal, was convicted for a crime he did not commit. A PCRA filing (Post Conviction Relief Act) is making its way through the Philadelphia courts right now based on

recently discovered evidence that one of the star witnesses, Robert Chobert, was paid off by then Assistant District Attorney Joe McGill, along with other prosecutorial misconduct from the 1982 trial.

This is the most promising path to having Mumia's conviction overturned and his freedom granted. His next court date is October 19th. Mumia is 68-years old and in declining health and whose freedom poses no threat to the community.

It's time for him to come home just like all the other aging political prisoners who have already been freed:
