Moving Tip #87:
Small dents on a fridge are fixable! Kits to fix the dents go online for around $50. Buy the door new is not worth it!

Moving Tip #86:

If you are moving long distance, do an inventory of all of your items before the movers show up!

Same applies if you are storing your belongings at the warehouse of the moving company!

Moving Tip #85:

Make sure that you get a contract for your move. No contract might mean problems. But also, read the contracts so you are aware of everything.

Moving Tip #84:

Every company is liable on damages for about $0.6/lb.

If you would like to cover specific items at full value, some companies sell extra insurance. It will run around 10% of the value. So a $500 TV will be $50 to insure fully.

Moving Tip #83:

If you are hiring a company for full service (packing things into boxes), you're better off buying the supplies yourself than getting them from the moving company. They will upcharge!

Moving Tip #82:

Pack Large/Light stuff such as pillows in XL boxes.

Pack fragile/heavy items such as glass/books in S boxes. This makes moving faster and safer load in the truck!

M volume and M weight in M boxes.

Moving Tip #81:

When booking a storage unit, first floor will always be more expensive than 3rd floor. However, the move-in and move-out will take longer (and cost more) from the 3rd floor. Is it worth the savings? Depends on the length of your stay!

Moving Tip #80:

Be aware that when you book a storage unit through a moving company, most likely you will be forced to book them again on the move out, regardless of the move-in performance!

Moving Tip #79:

If your move involves an extremely heavy item, such as a gun safe, make sure to request a truck with a lift gate and not a truck with a ramp!

Moving Tip #78:

For small business owners, real estate stagers, etc.

If you have storage units, make sure to buy shelving. You will fit more in each unit, more organized which will save your business time and money!

Moving tip #77: the farther you are moving, the more you should protect your items! For example, a set of dishes might make it around the corner in a box by themselves. But if you are moving interstate, pack them with packing paper!

Moving Tip #76: When moving anything with legs, try to disassemble the legs before moving. Less chance for anything to get damaged. It also allows to stack trucks more efficiently!

Moving Tip #75: when moving to an apartment, the first floor units are going to be a little bit more expensive per month. However, the third floor move-in and move-out will be more expensive! Is it worth it?

Moving Tip #74: when loading a truck, use ratchet straps to secure the load instead of using rope. Rope is flimsier and much harder to tie and untie. Also, use ratchet straps along the length of the truck not just the very end!

Moving Tip #73: before moving, do a 'deep clean' of your place and throw away all the trash. This includes posting furniture online for free. Don't pay movers to move things that you were going to throw away at new place!

Moving Tip #72: when building boxes, tape the bottom end in the shape of a '+' instead of '='. If you tape them like a
'cross', they will hold more weight.

Moving Tip #71: when loading your belongings into a container that will be shipped long distance: secure the load with rope or ratchet straps to prevent the door stuck!

Moving tip #70: do all the prep work before the movers show up to save time! Figure out where the truck should be parked, prop-open doors for stairs, get the key fobs, etc.
