After 2months of meticulous planning , we National Environment Management Authority (NEMA) held an interactive training workshop today, in partnership with Buganda Kingdom focusing on land restoration as a solution to central Uganda’s air quality problem. Grateful for all the support I recieved to make this happen😊.

Wetland degradation poses a grave danger to biodiversity, disrupts water systems, and threatens the survival of species that depend on these habitats, ultimately destabilizing the country's ecological balance and livelihoods. #Thecostofwetlanddegradation #Protectwetlands

Illegal human settlements in wetlands lead to increased water pollution which endangers aquatic life and compromises the health and sustainability of these important ecosystems. #Thecostofwetlanddegradation #Protectwetlands

Wetlands serve as natural buffers. They absorb excess rainfall and protect communities from floods while preserving water quality and supporting biodiversity. #Thecostofwetlanddegradation #Protectwetlands

Wetlands prevent siltation of water bodies by slowing direct runoff of water and debris into lakes and rivers. Degraded wetlands cannot provide this service. #Thecostofwetlanddegradation #Protectwetlands

The flooding at Bata-Bata between Namasuba and Zana during yesterday's downpour is a result of encroachment on main water channels that connect to Kaliddubi wetland on Busaabala Road. Our current intervention is inevitable to avert such a situation. Kindly leave the wetlands.

Encroachment on wetlands can lead to the introduction of invasive species (plants, animals and microorganisms) which often outcompete native species and compromise the wetland’s ability to perform its natural hydrological functions. #Thecostofwetlanddegradation #Protectwetlands

Destroying wetlands increases greenhouse gas emissions by releasing stored carbon, increasing methane emissions, causing vegetation loss, accelerating soil decomposition, and altering hydrology. #Thecostofwetlanddegradation #Protectwetlands

Human activities often lead to wetland destruction through urbanization, agricultural expansion, sand mining, etc. These activities, if not regulated contribute to loss of ecosystem services provided by the wetland to communities. #Thecostofwetlanddegradation #Protectwetlands
