It’s 10:00 pm the night before virtual learning and Junie is holding me accountable and forcing me to stop working.

First day back. Virtually. With a group of students who are using Teams the first time this year. Was I nervous? Yes. But let me tell y’all, these kids absolutely crushed it. So so so proud. And check out our first days in school number talk of the new year 😍

GO DAWGS GO! But also y’all there are going to be a lot of tired teachers tomorrow…or is it already considered today? 😴

Presenting…Silverbordle! Don’t think I’ll be getting an offer from The NY Times any time soon, but my students LOVED it! It sparked so many discussions about vowel sounds, blends, and many other phonics skills. (I wrote the word on a sticky note to help me with the colors 😂)

We’re loving #fcswrad and had a blast watching Jarrett Lerner! He even inspired some directed drawing during indoor recess 😀

This morning for Think About It Thursday we found words inside of the word BARNWELL. The 2 coolest finds- learn and bear! The Barnwell Beat!

In August she didn’t know any English or any letters of the alphabet. Today she wrote this to me by herself. This is why I teach. “I love to go to school. Silverboard I love you.” 😭❤️

First semester this student struggled with phonemic awareness skills…including rhyming and blending. Fast forward to May and check out this realistic fiction writing…without any teacher help! Explicit phonics instruction works y’all. So proud of this kiddo.

We need real change. Now.

A former student brought me this letter this morning. So much to love about this 😍😍😍 I also love that the book she remembers is Fenway and Hattie Victoria J Coe! Such a memorable book!

After completing the shape trilogy by @macbarnett and @burstofbeaden we brainstormed who that mystery shape could be?! But our running theory is that square is a lot sneakier than we think 😉 Such a fun literacy connection to our geometry unit!

So proud of this amazing actor and student of mine! He is Ralphie, from A Christmas Story! Such an amazing performance by him… and his mother as Ms. Shields! Oodles of talent!
