Thankful for an inspiring summer PD at Smithsonian’s Nat’l Museum of Asian Art with fellow DCPS Arts teachers. We learned to look closer at art and use it as inspiration for movement-particularly movement that leads to mindfulness. Excited to bring this to my kids this year! 👏

2nd and 3rd graders Hendley Elementary are using their observation and ELA skills in dance this week. They watched a leaf fall, recorded the action words and next class, we’ll create leaf dances from these words! Love seeing a room full of kids working together!

In honor of Black History Month, we hosted a screening of a virtual Step Afrika! HQ performance for our students. Afterwards, our Hendley Elementary students discussed together what they observed using their dance and music vocabulary. Thank you Step Afrika for your amazing performances!
