In preparation for tomorrow, I spent yesterday and some of this morning creating an anchor chart for analyzing documents in A Changing World ESL. Breaking down source analysis into simple steps using familiar question words is beneficial to all students, including ELLs.

New school year, new adventures. This week I will be meeting with the remaining members of FHS NHS’s E-Board as I begin my time as the club advisor.

Completing Dialogue Journals with my ESL classes is one of my favorite activities to do in class. This student code-switched and wrote in “Spanglish” for their entire entry. I love seeing how an Emerging Bilingual brain works!

In preparation for our new unit tomorrow, my ESL 3 students did a #ChalkTalk as a closing activity. Here’s what my ELLs think of when they hear Immigration and The American Dream

State DOE: Teachers and schools, students have been through so much, and we must focus on their emotional health first and foremost. Also, State DOE: You still have to administer standardized tests so companies can get paid, and so we can use the scores against you later.

Had a blast speaking at #NJFEAEmpowerED Conference today. Thank you Rider College of Education & Human Services for inviting me to be a presenter. And thank you to my awesome participants for the incredible comments and feedback. I hope to see some of you teaching in ESL classrooms real soon!

In preparation for reading sections of Life As We Knew It, I challenged my ESL 3 students. They had to “throw kindness like confetti” and compliment someone using similes or metaphors. Their notes to each other were so sweet! And some of them wrote to me 🥰

Spent the past few days chaperoning the Rutgers Model Congress, attended by the FHS chapter of Model UN. I was continually impressed by the students’ dedication to their committees and hard work throughout the event. I am so happy to have seen the MUN magic in person!
