Happy New Year from class 2-2! 🎉 For Tinker Tuesday, we used loose parts to create a fireworks display 💥 🎆

We have been composing and decomposing shapes in math! Students loved using the 2D pattern blocks to compose larger shapes and create their very own pictures!

Trying our first Splat! Number Talk in math today! We knew there were 10 dots total, but had to figure out how many dots were covered up. Lots of great discussions #adding #making10

2-2 is ready for snow! ❄️ For Tinker Tuesday, groups used different materials , such as tape, popsicle sticks and tin foil to build a shovel!

The Gr 2s have been learning about texture in art. We used different textured materials to create silly socks! 🧦 🙃

The Gr 2s have started learning about Simple Machines and Movement! Today in Science, groups investigated how different toys can move! Students discovered objects can change their position and move in a variety of ways, such as sliding, spinning and bouncing!

Exploring inclined planes! We created 2 kinds of ramps using a ruler and a metre stick. Then students compared the ramps. Groups investigated: Which ramp needed more effort to push the load? Which ramp was the distance greater?

In art, the Gr 2s are learning how to create the illusion of space and depth through different techniques, such as overlapping, size and placement! Check out our overlapping circles! Which circles look further away?

A fun day at Mountsberg! First we went for a walk on the Raptor Centre Trail to see birds, such as the bald eagle 🦅 in their outdoor enclosures. Then we visited the barn to see different farm animals, like donkeys, bunnies, chickens, and horses.

Then we explored Mapletown! We took a wagon ride into the sugar bush, learned how to tap sap from a maple tree 🍁 and boil it into delicious maple syrup. Next we got to taste it! 😋

The Gr 2s loved learning about solar eclipses today☀️ 🌕 🌎 and creating art pieces to mark the special occasion!

Can you create a car using straws, toothpicks, a clothespin, & paper circles? The Gr 2 classes used their knowledge of simple machines, such as the wheel and axle and tinkered with these materials to build their 🚗 Then we tested to see if they worked down an inclined plane 📐

Happy Earth Day! 🌎 Our class helped tidy up our school yard for our school-wide clean up event!

Building arrays using different math tools with a partner today! Then groups solved their array using a variety of multiplication strategies, such as skip counting, repeated addition and words 👏 HDSB Math HDSB
