Here’s a 🧵 of my section of the talk Kieran Mackle and I did at researchED last week all about variation. We started off explaining how we went about using Litmaps to find articles of interest.

Tiers do not ‘rank’ vocabulary. Tiers are based on the role of a word in the language. T1-common hi-freq words that we ALL use everyday; T2 -words characteristic of text; T3 -domain specific, narrow contexts of use.

This response is illogical, insulting, and counterproductive. You really don’t want kids learning tier 2 words? The kind of words you use all over your own writing (4 in the 1stsentence)? You don’t want to help kids access text language? 1/3
