As part of our Annual Report, we found many examples of effective practice by providers on the implementation of the Curriculum for Wales. Listen to our Sgwrs Podcast for an in depth discussion with providers on the ground: bit.ly/3CJPABb #SgwrsEstyn #EstynAnnualReport

Great to see Estyn highlighting the importance of being specific about what we want pupils to learn. When we’re clear about our learning intentions, it not only strengthens our teaching, it also makes it much easier to assess whether pupils have actually learned it. 👏👏

Separate sciences set to continue in Wales. Arguments for (more depth) and arguments against (less breadth overall). However, does the decision undermine philosophy of Curriculum for Wales in relation to pupils experiencing all AOLEs until 16? gov.wales/written-statem…

TOMORROW: a slightly belated reflection on Estyn's report on the quality of maths teaching, which landed too late last year to squeeze it into season 7. As always, some poky discussion, not least Cameron Stewart with this...!

The teaching of Welsh history is mandated as part of CfW. However, the specifics are not. So what schools actually teach and to what depth is variable. Some children may learn more about Nazi Germany than Welsh history. Some may not. That’s Curriculum for Wales.

It’s good to see that Qualifications Wales are recognising that the increase in NEA poses real challenges in terms of pupil workload throughout Year 10 and 11. I’m yet to be convinced that the added pressure for pupils is worth it. It appears to be more burdensome and more unfair.
