Loved this episode of the CoRecursive Podcast podcast. I’d never heard of Paul Lutus but he sure is a great storyteller. Even for non tech people this episode was great.

I re-watched Contact with Jodi Foster last night. I had built it up as this amazing movie from my younger years and was really stoked to see it again. Hoooo…. clunky. Part sci-fi, part drama, part romance, part summer disaster. It definitely didn’t hold up like I’d hoped.

I haven't written much Javascript in the past few months. I dropped into React + Typescript again this week and - wow - it's so nice in there. Our Microsoft dev tool overlords have sure created a productive little playground.

Here are some happy performance charts from tickit.ca The yellow line is requests per minute, showing two different bursts. The stable bars show response times chilling around 50ms throughout. Noice. Also, I'm loving Scout Monitoring #webapp #performance

Props to NBC Olympics & Paralympics - their coverage used to be laughably bad, cutting out early and only doing marquee events. This year's winter coverage has been great. Thoughtful, diverse, actually talking about countries other than USA. Nice job team!

Finally published an update to my original Ruby gem - rubygems.org/gems/validates… - only seven years between releases!

Amazing story and photos of Kitsault, BC, a beautifully preserved ghost town from the early 80s that was only inhabited for a year. Awesomely reported by my favourite journalist ⁦Justin McElroy⁩ justinmcelroy.com/2022/07/26/vis…

I loved this podcast about Eugene Debs, father of socialism in the USA. Principled and charismatic. Bernie Sanders’s hero. He even got 1MM votes for president back in the day. Is there anyone like him today? npr.org/2020/03/18/817…

I need to make a simple account system for a static single page app. Super low traffic. Dozens of accounts. My dream would be somewhere I can run SQLite and a Ruby server for $5 a month or less. Does that exist?

There's much more to the Capital Daily story. Sources say staff were sometimes asked to blur the lines between advertising and editorial, even promote the boss' company in editorial content. The news staff pushed back, and a week later they were fired. ricochet.media/en/3929/capita…

I got tired of trying to decipher scammy listings on Amazon from sketchy drop shippers so figured I’d try Aliexpress directly. It was a wayyy better shopping experience. Longer shipping but cheaper price. And I have more faith in the sellers.

Just bought a whole bunch of samples from @subsocials in YRR - stoked to make some beautiful weird things with them.
