I'm already a huge fan of Tadashi Dozono's work, which really gets to grips with the experiences of racialiased learners in the history classroom. I'm really keen to get into this book which promises to be an important and provoking read for History teachers.

The deadline for early bird tickets is fast approaching. I think this will be such an exciting conference with a host of fascinating and inspiring sessions. I can't wait to get nerdy about teaching history!

I always try to talk about having a decolonial approach, rather than just doing diversity or decolonising the curriculum. Here are some reasons why...feel free to add!! I will reference some scholarship for these points over the coming days...

As usual, Nadena Doharty is spot on. I wonder how many of these points have progressed in a meaningful way in the last 4 years? There have been some amazing textbooks of late but without points 1,3 and 4, we are in dangerous territory!

For people that were unable to make my lecture the other night, it's now live on YouTube. A story of a Rastafarian youth centre in the provincial Midlands ❤️❤️❤️❤️

It is the the lens with which we interrogate topics with students that makes our work decolonial. Even the reign of Henry VIII can highlight hidden histories and reveal counternarratives to the dominant white, elite and male histories which are taught alongside the specification.

Really excited about the SHP summer conference. Honoured to have been asked to do a workshop, and looking forward to all the fantastic other speakers. Its going to be a phenomenal opportunity to learn, reflect and develop in the company of other history teachers and historians.

Powerful words by 102 years old philosopher Edgar Morin, one of France's most revered intellectual figures, as well as a Jewish WW2 resistant who fought as a lieutenant in De Gaulle's France combattante.

Here are his words on Gaza: 'I am both astonished

When I plan and teach history, I do it with the following principles in mind. Decolonial teaching is a frame of mind and and a lens with which we approach our work.

Planning CPD of decolonising the curriculum and again struck by the importance of this quote from the awesome Tadashi Dozono (2019). We must be very careful to avoid what Dozono calls 'representation through negation' when teaching sensitive histories. tandfonline.com/doi/full/10.10…
