People want you to think reading is a privilege because then it is much easier to have ire for those who do read. Thus reading becomes an ‘elitist’ way of knowing the world.

This explanation by Trevor Aleo, EdD is a good example of how efficiency in building knowledge by just telling them through explicit instruction isn't always best. Sometimes methods that are inefficient for pure knowledge building are preferable because they match the outcomes.
