“Love the aggression” is the phrase I use most when a kid takes a big swing and miss (even if it’s on a bad pitch) You never become a great hitter with the bat on your shoulder.

The RECORD for most pitches in a single inning by a MLB pitcher is 61…. According to the best data I can find, there have only been 15 times an MLB pitcher threw over 50 pitches in an inning since 2015… But we think kids can do it?? 🤯

Sitting in a meeting for a tournament this weekend… 9u-12u… allowing 30 outs per pitcher over the weekend (5 games+)… with no restrictions on how many outs per day/pitching next day 🤯 These tournament directors just setting coaches/kids up for failure.

📰 This Week In Pitch Counts 📰 - Episode 10: - My son was 10 & his teammate threw 174 pitches in a weekend - Tournament medals get handed out today, but overuse injuries can arrive tomorrow The path forward is new universal rules & the elimination of overuse as an option.

Arkansas right-hander Gage Wood just threw the first no-hitter in the College World Series since 1960. Wood is projected to be a first-round pick in July’s draft. Was an eighth-inning HBP away from a perfect game with 19 strikeouts.

There have to be rules. The rules have to specifically relate to pitch counts and rest (NOT OUTS). And the rules have to be universally enforced. Coaches won’t do it. Parents won’t do it. Tournament organizers won’t do it. It has to come from “above”

I see nothing wrong with a kid throwing *takes off socks to use toes to count* 200 pitches or so in a weekend. Their arms are made of rubber and they recover quick, so there can’t possibly be downstream effects from this structure. But serious, huge yikes.
