'Quake II' is released for PC. With John Romero leaving id Software, Q2 was a departure from Q1 in terms of story and visuals. But id Software shipped the game with the source code, allowing mods that still continue to this day!

'Final Fantasy V' is released for the Super Famicom in Japan. Like most FF series, it was released exclusively in Japan, & wasnt ported until years later on the Playstation and Game Boy Advance. It sold almost 1m copies within a day of release.
